Dr. Gilbert on the staff and atmosphere at Bright Star Dental What Is a Dental Emergency?
Here are some of the most common dental emergencies we treat.
- Cracked Tooth – A crack in your tooth puts it at risk of breaking. You need to get into our office quickly to get your tooth stabilized by either a dental veneer or dental crown. With our same-day dental crowns and veneers, you can have your smile repaired quickly by Dr. Gilbert.
- Broken Tooth – A broken tooth exposes the delicate insides of your tooth and can put the life of your tooth at risk. It is imperative that you get to our office quickly so we can try to save your tooth. For many situations where a tooth is broken, a dental crown can save the tooth and restore its function. In case of extreme breakage, saving the tooth may not be possible, and an emergency tooth extraction might be needed to keep the rest of your smile healthy.
- Dislodged Tooth – The longer your tooth is outside of your mouth, the less of a chance we have to save it. First, you need to find the tooth. Wash the tooth in warm water, holding it only by the crown (the white part). Then, put it in a plastic bag or small plastic container filled with milk to help it remain viable so that Dr. Gilbert can place it back in your mouth. Call our office for your emergency appointment.
- Infected Tooth – If you have unexplained pain or swelling in your face, you may have an infected tooth. This is very dangerous and should be treated as a dental emergency. Dental infections can cost you not only the infected tooth but other teeth as well. We can provide a root canal and same-day crown if needed, all in one visit.
